THE HISTORY OF THE MINERAL SOURCE AND FARRIS BAD

100 000 years of ice age shaped the moraine that Larvik and Norway’s largest beech forest rests on. 10 000 years ago, the ice drew back, and the water trickled through the rock masses and gathered into a purified, nutritious source. In 1843, Karen Linaae established the first bath on this source and in 1880, Dr. Ingebrigt Holm founded a new bath. Poets like Ibsen, Bjørnson, Lagerlöf and Hamsun visited. They stayed here, bathed, ate and danced. Soon, the bubbling, health-giving water from Larvik was known all over Europe.

THE FOUNDING OF FARRIS BAD SPAHOTELL

The ocean still strikes our beaches in Larvik and the mineral source is still the same.

Already in 1990, the first thoughts about a hotel at the beach were launched by Mille Marie Treschow. When the construction started in 2007, it was after many years of struggle for building permits.

On March 5th 2009, Farris Bad spa hotel opened its 176 rooms and suites, 2500 sqm. spa and conference facilities for up to 400 people.

With one foot on land and one foot in the sea, with one foot in history, and one foot in the future.
