The story of the source and the original Farris Bad
100,000 years of ice agehave shaped the moraine on witch Larvik and Norway’s largest beech forest lay upon. 10,000 years ago, the ice pulled back, and the water silted through the rock masses and gathered into a purified, nutritious source.
In 1843 Karen Linaae established the first bath on this source. In 1880 Dr. Ingebrigt Holm founded a new bath. Here came Ibsen and Bjørnson, Lagerlöf and Hamsun. Here they lived, here they were bathing and they danced. And soon, the bubbly, healthy water from Larvik was known throughout Europe.
The history of the new Farris Bad
Farris Bad as its own name is historical and the place remains the same. The mighty sea still hits our beaches – and the source is the same. Already in 1990, the first thoughts about a hotel on the beach spot were launched by Mille Marie Treschow. When the construction started in 2007, it was after many years of struggle for a building permit. March 5th, 2009, Farris Bad spa hotel opened with 176 rooms and suites, 2500 sqm spa and conference facilities for up to 400 people. With one foot on land and one foot in the ocean, one foot in history and one foot in the future. Farris Bad is part of Nordic Choice Hotels, and at nordicchoicehotels.no you can find more hotels in Larvik.
